Lifelong Learning

All our programs at CIDER are based on the Lifelong Learning process.Lifelong Learning insures the solid acquisition of knowledge. It places the student in the center of the learning adventure, and makes him responsible for his education. The exacting tutor becomes a mentor to the student. Emphasis shifts from memorizing facts to understanding concepts. “Solo cramming”, and competitive testing are replaced by expressive sharing, and self-evaluation. The concept of Lifelong Learning is no stranger to medicine. Abraham Flexner’s writings(1), and The Yale System of Medical Education(2), are early Twentieth Century examples.

On behalf of Fundación Santa Fe de Bogota (FSFB)*, and the Center for Interactive Digital Education in Radiology (CIDER)* I welcome you to our Website.

The object of this Website is to contribute to the understanding of pulmonary radiology. It is aimed at the medical community at large, and in particular at those junior members in training. All sections are based on the concept of Lifelong Learning.

This Website includes an e-Book on the basic concepts of pulmonary radiology, a Tutorial Section, a Case of The Month Section, a Show and Tell Section, a Boards Primer Section and a Benefactors Section. QUIZZ/GAMING features that reinforce the various concepts you have learned are available when considered appropriate.

The FSFB-CIDER Website promotes the active participation of its visitors. Your comments and contribution of interesting cases can make this site an exciting meeting place for those interested in pulmonary radiology.

This year’s first Case of the Month is a dyspneic 24 year old man referred to the FSFB University Hospital with an abnormal chest xray exam.

This month’s Show and Tell is the interactive section of the Educational Exhibit titled "Game-Learning in Radiology", presented by members of FSFB-CIDER at the 2008 meeting of the RSNA in Chicago, IL. 


This exhibit was one of 15 recipients of The Excellence in Design Award. A Total of 1606 educational exhibits were presented.
